Community Safety Notice - Increase in Violent Offences |
||
|
We want to make everyone aware that there has been a noticeable increase in reports of violent offences in the Denewood/Bilborough Area. Your safety and the safety of others is extremely important, so please remain vigilant when out and about especially during the evening and early morning hours. If you witness suspicious behaviour or feel unsafe, trust your instincts and remove yourself from the situation where possible or notify a trusted person.
Safety Advice: The increase of Violent Offences have also been linked to domestic settings. Domestic abuse can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, or background and often happens behind closed doors. If you or someone you know may be experiencing abuse, please know that support is available and you are not alone.
Signs to be aware of: If you believe someone is in immediate danger call 999 straight away. For Non-emergency concerns, and require advice on this matter, contact the Police on 101. If safe to do so, check in with neighbours you may be concerned about but do not put yourself at risk by intervening directly in violent situations.
Supporting Services: National Centre for Domestic Violence/Abuse: 0808 2000 247 or 0800 970 2070 (24/7 Service and Confidential). Text “NCDV” to 60777
You can discuss the possibilities of applying for an Injunction through the National Centre for Domestic Violence and if deemed eligible once your case has been assessed you will be allocated a case worker who will call you back and start to draft all of the necessary documents to apply for your Injunction and will happily guide you through the process.
What is an Injunction? An injunction is a court order that prohibits an abuser from using or threatening violence against you, harassing, pestering or intimidating you and in some cases contacting you altogether. If the order is breached the Police can arrest the abuser immediately. if you are living or have lived with the abuser they can also be used to prevent them from returning to your home or even have them removed from the location. Injunctions work incredible well and help give you back control of your situation, they allow you to stand up for yourself and say “NO” to being intimidated and living in fear. The injunction is a civil order which means that the Police have no involvement unless of course the terms of the order are breached and are evidentially supported. Usually the terms outlined on the order are in place for a year but they can last from a few months to over 2 years before being reviewed.
