Hello and welcome to the latest update from your neighbourhood policing team.
As part of my role as your Neighbourhood Inspector, I regularly meet with key local partners to discuss policing in the district and identify any issues of concern. What follows is a brief summary of what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and the impact we are having across our communities. Current priorities in your areaOur local policing priorities are set in consultation with the wider community and are currently: Drug dealing and antisocial behaviour in Eastwood Antisocial behaviour in Beeston
Drug dealing and antisocial behaviour in Eastwood: We know that drug use, drug dealing and drug production often go hand-in-hand with crime and antisocial behaviour. That’s why we are working hard to tackle this issue after a spate of calls about street dealing and drug-related offences over the past couple of months.
Over the last few weeks, we’ve executed three court warrants in Manor Road and Harvest Road, Eastwood, during which we recovered a quantity of Class A and B drugs.
That action was made possible by the cooperation of the wider community, who reported concerns about these two addresses. We are also working to secure closure orders for other local properties following reports from local residents.
We’re doing this alongside our local council partners to help them take back control of the properties and remove problem individuals from the tenancies — giving neighbouring residents the peace and quiet they deserve.
Introducing the Mini Police: Also I am very pleased to announce that the Mini Police programme has now been adopted at Brinsley Primary school, in Eastwood. The Mini Police programme is a structured curriculum delivery by police officers and covers a range of topics from road safety and bullying to antisocial behaviour. The idea is to interduce our young people to the police at an early stage, and to break down any barriers that may exist to future communication. This really is a great initiative, and I know children and parents get a lot out of it. Antisocial behaviour in Beeston: This continues to be a persistent problem and a source of concern for local retailers and residents. The reality is that a disproportionate number of offences are being committed by a relatively small group of persistent offenders. We have been working to identify these individuals and build evidence to secure Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs) against them to place legal restrictions on their behaviour.
One such application relates to James Martin, a prolific local shoplifter who has now been banned from multiple shops in Beeston, including: B&M Bargains in The Square Co-op in Queen’s Road Tesco in Station Road Sainsbury’s in Stoney Street Home Bargains in Queen’s Road He is also prohibited from being in possession of an open can or bottle of alcohol in the Beeston area — a crucial restriction that will help reduce the nuisance he poses to the local community.
Antisocial vehicle use: We also know that the antisocial use of off-road bike and electric vehicles are also a significant concern to local residents, which is why we have recently employed the force’s Off-Road Team across Beeston, Chilwell and Stapleford. During a rainy day patrol an e-scooter was seized from a 19-year-old-man who was stopped outside Rylands Community Centre. We would like to remind the public the following information regarding e-bike and e-scooter use: An e-bike with a throttle cannot propel the bike more than 3.5 MPH An e-bike cannot have a motor more than 250W An e-bike cannot be propelled more than 15 MPH An e-bike must have pedals that propel the bike E-scooters are not legal to use on public roads or spaces under any circumstances I also wanted to highlight some excellent work by two local officers, PC Erin Bellaby and PC Harry Brown. PC Bellaby bravely fought with a wanted shoplifting suspect for several minutes as he tried and failed to avoid arrest. Tommy Lawrence has since been jailed for 44 weeks for a range of offences.
I would also like to recognise some outstanding work by off duty officers: PC Harry Brown, who made an arrest while off duty. Harry was out shopping with his family when he spotted another prolific shoplifter he knew was wanted by police for several theft offences. Despite having no police equipment with him - including no handcuffs - Harry acted decisively and safely detained the suspect. Harry’s commitment and bravery demonstrate his dedication to keeping our communities safe, both on and off duty. We are extremely proud of his actions. ------------------------- Evan Pidgeon, aged 37, stole £150 worth of clothing from an outdoor shop on Castle Boulevard on 6 February this year. Pidgeon was spotted and arrested in Beeston town centre on 9 March by PC Dean Bardill whilst off-duty, who then marched him straight to the police station. A subsequent search uncovered a meat cleaver inside his jacket, along with two screwdrivers and a lock knife. He was jailed for 31 weeks. How to contact us Looking for help or information?
