Reports of cold calling in the Nuthall area.

Nottinghamshire County Council Trading Standards Service has received reports of tradespeople leaflet dropping in the Nuthall area, specifically on Temple Drive, Roland Avenue and the surrounding areas.

Beware of unsolicited callers; if a trader knocks on your door, be cautious about agreeing to purchase any goods and/or services without taking time to discuss it with friends or family, and doing some research to check the trader is legitimate.

Although some doorstep callers may be genuine, be aware that there are many rogue traders that operate through cold calling and door-to-door sales. These traders do not just cold call at the door, they can have professional looking leaflets and place adverts in newspapers, magazines, and other publications.

Rogue traders often start with small jobs such as cleaning gutters for £20 then claim further work is needed, which they will not quote for, then demand hundreds or thousands of pounds, often for no or very little work.

Trading Standards recommend that if you are looking for a tradesperson, ask your friends and family for recommendations, or you can obtain free ‘pre-shopping advice’ by contacting the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133. Alternatively, you can find approved traders on Buy with Confidence https://www.buywithconfidence.gov.uk/

If you concerned about any work you have had done, or you are worried about unwanted callers at your door, contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133.

If an unwanted caller is refusing to leave, call 999 and report it to the Police.

Door stickers advising callers that you will not engage with them or buy at the door are available free of charge from Trading Standards:
