Suspicious activity at yards

Good evening,

Just to make you aware of a report that has been made tonight (8th April 2025) from a local member of HorseWatch.

A suspicious male has been seen driving a dark coloured Vauxhall Insignia up a private driveway to a yard in the Ashfield area, filming and taking photos of horses in the fields. When challenged, this male has driven off at speed then been seen again at a different entrance to the yard a short while later.

It may be nothing to worry about, but please take this email as a reminder to keep on top of yard security!

Some top tips to think about include:

- Securing tack (locking it away, keeping out of sight, recording details of saddle serial numbers/ photos of identifying marks, keeping headcollars out of easy sight etc.)

- Ensuring trailer and machine security (recording trailer registration/ VIN numbers, photos of identifying marks, considering hitch locks/ wheel clamps/ trackers etc.)

- Yard walk arounds (closing, securing and locking gates, sheds etc., considering padlocks/ combination locks etc.- if in doubt, check again!)

- CCTV and lighting (check it's working and accessible)

- Communication and report (yard group chats, up to date contact details for yard owners, signing up to HorseWatch alerts etc.)

As always, please report any incidents via 999 in an emergency, or 101 in a non emergency.

Thanks,

PC Crouch
