THINK! -Before you drive

On the build up to Christmas we often see an increase in drink and drug driving due to all the social events that everyone goes to in the build up of the festive period.

It is illegal to drive under the influence of drink and drugs.

The legal alcohol limit in England, Wales and Northern Ireland for driving is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. It's impossible to say exactly how many drinks this equals to – it’s different for each person.

Don’t take the risk of mixing the two.

• 50% of young male drivers intend to be sensible but often get carried away while socialising, putting themselves at risk even with a small amount of alcohol.

• THINK! research shows young drivers think about how consequences of drink driving can cause inconvenience to their everyday life and are often focused on a loss of freedom.

• Research also shows that young men are most impacted by seeing how the consequences of drink driving 'ladder'—one event leading to another—rather than simply showing one isolated consequence. They often think, "It won’t happen to me," so connecting the dots between multiple consequences resonates more effectively.

Because of this a new initiative has been launched for 2024, we are launching a ‘THINK! 0%’ brand platform nationally to encourage 0.0% alcohol suppliers and venues to suggest 0% alternatives when driving. This brand will live past the current campaign and extend reach to wider audiences, enabling us to interrupt decision making at the point of purchase, when people often make the decision to drive

Events are being held by the Roads Policing Team between 5PM and 7PM on the following dates:

Friday 13th December - Worksop

Saturday 21st December - Newark

Friday 27th December - West Bridgford

Saturday 4th January - Retford.

This is to help raise awareness of the effects of drink driving and to change peoples attitudes towards this, with things such as “beer goggles” which simulate the effect of how alcohol affects your reactions and impair your ability to drive!

Anyone with information about suspected drink or drug driving should contact Nottinghamshire Police, by calling 101.

In case of an emergency, or if you believe a crime is in progress, always dial 999.
