Neighbourhood Inspectors Blog

Dear Resident

Over the last few weeks, our city north neighbourhood policing team has continued to crackdown on our local policing priorities, which are antisocial behaviour, drug crime, and acquisitive crimes, which include retail crime, burglaries and vehicle crime.

We’re continuing to effectively tackle these offences across the city north area, which covers Bulwell, Bestwood, Top Valley, Sherwood and Carrington.

One of the issues which causes the most annoyance across the neighbourhoods is the use of off road motorcycles and high performance electric bikes. It is a tricky issue to tackle safely, but the teams have been working incredibly hard along with our colleagues in the off road bike team. Through everyone’s hard work, we have managed to seize 3 such bikes in recent weeks. These operations will continue so I would encourage residents to report the issues, particularly providing details as to which addresses the bikes are coming from or riders frequenting.

Working with our partners in the City Council, we have secured closure orders on 2 addresses (one in Bulwell and one in Sherwood) where the courts have supported a closure of the property for a initial 3 month period. This follows complaints of ASB and drug related issues. I sincerely hope that these closures have a positive impact for the communities and provide some well needed respite.

We’ve been dedicated to tackling the issues that have been identified by the community, and we’ve seen some really good success rates, with the city north area achieving a 17.4% positive outcome rate for reported offences, which is one of the best in the force. When I say positive outcomes, I mean when a suspect has been arrested, charged, cautioned, or given restorative justice, so essentially where someone has been sanctioned to prevent further offending, so this rating is very pleasing.

We have seen some really good successes recently but I’m not complacent, and neither are our teams, as we know we need to do more, and we can do more. In order to do so, we need your help. If you see a crime in progress or see suspicious activity, please call us as soon as possible so we can respond appropriately.

Obviously with the festive season approaching, many people will be receiving expensive gifts and electrical items. Please ensure these items are security marked and you make a note of serial numbers etc. Please do not leave boxes etc outside for refuge collection as it advertises to would be thieves what goodies you may have.
