Complaints are being received about inconsiderate parking in your area.
We would ask you to observe the following guidelines when parking, in order to ease any problems.
Please be considerate when,
Parking on a bend. Parking on the Path, leave enough room for pedestrians, wheelchairs/walking frame users, mobility scooter users and persons with prams to pass. Do not block persons driveways. Try not to park opposite an already parked vehicle.
Section 137 of the Highways Act 1980 states that if a person, without lawful authority or excuse, willfully obstructs the free passage along a highway, they are guilty of an offense. The penalty for this offense can be imprisonment for a term not exceeding 51 weeks, a fine, or both. In addition to this, please also be mindful of further legislation around obstructing the highway and inappropriate parking.
Willfully obstruction of the highway – section 137 of the Highways Act 1980. Unnecessary obstruction – regulation 103 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986. Leaving a vehicle in a dangerous position – section 22 of the Road Traffic Act 198 Driving/riding on the footway – section 72 of the Highway Act 1835. Parking heavy commercial vehicles on the footway – section 19 of the Road Traffic Act 1988
Police will take action if there is a clear and obvious issue and immediate danger to the public.
We will be monitoring the area where possible and the police will consider the use of advisory notices and/or fixed penalty notices where appropriate. Vehicles can also be seized if there are any offences.
