This week has been our knife crime week of action during which Mansfield South Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted a number of operations aimed at tackling knife crime. This week of action was conducted as a part of Operation Sceptre, which is a policing operation dedicated to the detection and prevention of knife crime. Knife sweeps were conducted on Racecourse Park and Oak Tree Lane Heath by Police Constables and Police Community Support Officers, officers utilised metal detectors and their search training to sweep area’s in which knives may have been discarded or stashed. High Oakham Primary School and Berry Hill Primary School both had visits from local PCSOs where the children were given an assembly about knives and the dangers that come with carrying one. The children also got an opportunity to go onto the school fields and use metal detectors to find teaspoons hidden around the field to give them an idea of what we do during Op Sceptre to keep local Parks safe for the community. If you have a knife that you wish to dispose of there is a knife amnesty bin located at Mansfield Police Station’s front counter in which you can safely dispose of the item without fear of prosecution. Should you find a knife out in your local community please either dispose of it in your local amnesty bin or call 101 to speak to one of our call handlers who will be able to advise the best course of action. Nottinghamshire Police is dedicated to tackling knife crime and we will continue to conduct operations such as these in order to ensure our communities remain safe and knife free, should you have any information relating to knife crime or any other type of criminality you can report it to us via our website, 101, or anonymously via Crimestoppers. | ||||
