Mobility Scooters

We have noticed a rise in reports to Nottinghamshire Police about the theft of mobility scooters in this area, we would like to take the opportunity to help prevent further thefts by ensuring locals have as much advice as possible to deter thieves.

Therefore, please consider the following in relation to your mobility scooter,

Ensure your scooter has owners name and contact details etched on the frame, this can help identify the owner, and will help us return your property to you in the event we locate the stolen scooter.

When parking your mobility scooter, always lock your scooter up even if you are indoors or leaving your scooter for a short length of time.

If you can, park in a secure area that is well lit and has high foot traffic also consider where CCTV surveillance may be an option when leaving your scooter in a public place.

Remove detachable parts such as, baskets or removable batteries if possible.

When parking your scooter overnight you could, bring your scooter inside, park in a secure back garden or secure garden shed.

There are many options such as physical deterrents:

  • Locking: invest in a high-quality weatherproof lock, designed for mobility scooters. U locks can be used or double locking.
  • Alarm systems: audible or silent alarm that can be triggered with unauthorized movement.
  • Immobilizing devices: wheel clamp or handlebar locks.
  •

    Yours sincerely
